Shalom. May you be reminded of Gods love, his grace and his healing presence.
This last week has been a bit of a whirlwind. I’ve been to Christchurch and spent time with my brother who was in a serious accident on his hand bike and has spent the last week in ICU. Early days yet, but indications are favourable and I’m believing, along with hundreds of others, that he’ll pull through with no further disability. Only time will tell and the ability for his body to heal. If you’re into prayer, please do pray for him…
I also travelled to Hamilton as well and visited someone in hospital there who is thankfully on the mend and hoping to be home soon. Whilst there I managed to coincide my time with a nice meal out with my wife for our 31st wedding anniversary.
I don’t feel too busy, but weeks like this do seem longer when you look back. I’m sure time stretches and shrinks depending on circumstances. Last Friday and Saturday seemed to last a week as we waited to see if my brother would hang in there. Then all of a sudden it’s Thursday!
My word for the year is ‘Hope’. In light of what’s happened since then, it’s been appropriate and just. But hope in and of itself doesn’t mean much and this past week I’ve been reminded who I have hope in…
Romans 5 in the ‘Passion’ Translation says this about hope…
2 Our faith guarantees us permanent access into this marvelous kindness[c] that has given us a perfect relationship with God. What incredible joy bursts forth within us as we keep on celebrating our hope of experiencing God’s glory!
3 But that’s not all! Even in times of trouble we have a joyful confidence, knowing that our pressures will develop in us patient endurance. 4 And patient endurance will refine our character, and proven character leads us back to hope. 5 And this hope is not a disappointing fantasy,[d] because we can now experience the endless love of God cascading into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who lives in us![e]
I found that Jesus was very much present over the last week and I’m so excited about what he’s going to show each of us this coming year. I hope and pray you will be too.
