Pastor’s Pen 3rd February 2019

Shalom. May you be blessed to be a blessing and loved to be loving and encouraged to be encouraging.
It’s a privilege and a calling to follow that which God has for you. Some of those things seem obvious… for me as a Pastor it does. Then there’s those vocations like policeman, lawyers, doctors, nurses, firemen (do we still call them that?) that many feel a sense of call too.
But the truth is that we are all called and what we do is, or should be, a part of that. Ultimately our calling is to be a disciple of Jesus and encourage others to be the same, yet our vocation is as varied as possible. Some people seem to find their calling easily, whilst others stumble around for years struggling to be satisfied, always searching for that elusive perfect fit. Perhaps they’ll never find it because they have so much to offer, that one vocation isn’t enough?
I’ve had over 20 different jobs, and have been a Pastor for nearly 24 years, so my 20’s were busy. Back then it wasn’t seen as a good thing to have been so varied, but now it’s ok. However, I don’t know what else I’d do as this calling hasn’t diminished over the years and it is a varied and satisfying role… most of the time!
I don’t know what you do, but I know this… whether you’re retired, at school, studying for your dream career, continuing in something you’ve done for the last XX years, taking a break or rediscovering the next thing…
1-2 So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
Romans 12 The Message
So have a great week discovering how to do this each day. Remember the hope that we have available to us can transform the most stressful or boring day, cling to that hope… his name is Jesus.

Bless ya
