At our forum on Sunday May 20th we discussed some draft values that are below.
It’s our intention to consider these before the AGM and adopt them.
Please feel free to read through them and any questions please contact Mike. It is not our intention to rediscuss these at the AGM as the opportunity has already been given.
Values Statement – Draft
God wants us to become more like Jesus. The closer we walk with Him the more we change.
Hebrews 12: 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.
We believe the Holy Spirit still manifests his presence through miracles and gifts to lead us into effective mission and kingdom living.
John 14: 7 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.
God’s word is God’s truth. His Holy Spirit never contradicts it, rather illuminates it.
2 Tim 3: 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
All of me through Worship.
Worship is to honour God in every aspect of our lives, in response to who God is and what He has done for us. His Holy Spirit helps us to worship Him in spirit and in truth.
John 4: 23 But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.24 For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
Come as you are.
People matter to God and to us. God desires everyone to be in relationship with Him. Since Christ died for all, we should be concerned for all, looking for ways to share His love.
John 3: 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Unity in diversity, same but different.
We are all different, but God unites us by giving us one purpose. We celebrate our differences while focusing our attention on Him. Working together using our God-given abilities and gifts, we become one body.
Ephesians 4: 11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
Powerless without Prayer.
Prayer is simply two-way communication with an ever-waiting God. It is our connection to the vital presence of Christ.
Philippians 4: 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
God anoints and we appoint.
Servant leaders do the right thing and do things right.
Romans 12: 3 Because of the privilege and authority[c] God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us…6 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well… 8If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously… 9 Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. 10 Love each other with genuine affection,[e] and take delight in honoring each other. 11 Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.[f] 12 Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. 13 When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.
Wet and Forget.
Baptism by full immersion is a step in our journey with Jesus and symbolizes and signifies dying to our old life and rising to the new one.
Romans 6: 3 Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? 4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.
A peg for every hole and a hole for every peg.
There are no spectators in a team, everyone has a position and a part to play.
Ephesians 2: 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
